Mgr. et Mgr. Klára Škrobánková, Ph.D.


Assistant Professor

Klára Škrobánková studied Theater Theory and History and English Language and Literature at the Faculty of Arts, Masaryk University. During her studies, she completed internships at the University of Vienna.

Her research focuses primarily on the history of German-language theater in the Czech lands, with a particular emphasis on 19th-century provincial theater scenes within the Austrian monarchy. In 2023, she defended her dissertation titled “Lest the Temple of Thalia in This Provincial Capital Fall into Decay: The Opava Municipal Theater in the 19th Century in the Context of Theater Operations in the Austrian Monarchy” at the Department of Theater Studies, Faculty of Arts, Masaryk University.

Between 2017 and 2021, she worked at the Theater Faculty of JAMU. She is a member of the Cabinet for the Study of Czech Theater at the Theater Institute in Prague (NIK), where she focuses primarily on the creation of the Czech Theater Encyclopedia (section on German Drama). Since 2023, she has been working at KDS as an assistant professor.

She was a co-investigator on the GAČR grant project GA19-07494S, English Theater Culture 1660–1737, for which she, among other things, newly translated Gay’s The Beggar’s Opera. She continues to focus on translations and critical editions of 17th- and 18th-century English Drama.
