Margita Havlíčková, PhDr.

Professor

She specializes in the history of Czech and German professional theatre, especially in Brno and in Moravia, and also on the earlier history of stage design. She systematically follows the activities of Brno Theatre At the Table within contemporary Czech theatre.

She studied theatre studies and Spanish at the Faculty of Arts of Masaryk University in Brno.

In the mid-1970s she led and directed PIRÁM theatre ensemble with the repertoire focused on Czech surrealists (Kolář, Weiss, Nezval). From 1981 to 2008 she worked as a researcher and a custodian at the department of Theatre History of the Moravian Museum in Brno. From 1995 to 2000 she worked as an assistant professor at the Division of Theatre Studies under the Department of Aesthetics at the Faculty of Arts of Masaryk University; she held the same position at the Theatre Faculty of JAMU. Since Autumn 2006 has been working at the Department of Theatre Studies at the Faculty of Arts of Masaryk University, which she led from 2013 to 2017.

From 2006 to 2008 she was a co-researcher of three-year grant project GAČR (Czech Science Foundation) called Identifikace německojazyčných městských divadel na Moravě a ve Slezku (Identification of German-speaking municipal theatres in Moravia and Silesia). From 2006 to 2008 she was the chairwoman of the Theatre Research Society. Recently she has been primarily publishing results of her research in the field of professional theatre in Brno in the 17th and 18th centuries.
